Summer in Port Jervis

Posted on: June 1st, 2015

As the summer of 2015 begins, I would like to Welcome family, friends, neighbors and strangers near and far to visit our many events and activities.  During June there is the Soap Box Derby, Flag Day and Stephen Crane Day.  July we have Dinner Along the Delaware and Fireworks Show, the Fireman’s Day Parade and the Arts Walk.  Lastly in August we will have our first ever Sprint Triathlon.  Of course their always hiking or walking in the city with our Heritage Trail and Fitness Loop that are throughout the city.  You can also begin to see the changes on our mile long D&H Canal trail beginning on West Main Street near Grand View Avenue.  If a short mountain climb is what you are looking for you can head up to Reservoir Avenue to park your car and walk the 1/2 mile path to the top of Point Peter.  Lastly, there is Hulkberry Ridge which is a NYS DEC marked trail that follows along Black Rock Cut just off of Minisink Avenue.  If rafting, kayaking, or tubing is your game the Delaware River offers the best relaxing day.  You can park a vehicle a West End Park and Recreation Center on Ferry Street and take your raft, tube or kayak by another vehicle to the free NYS DEC launch and park just past the Mongaup on Route 97 and make a day of it.  Whatever you do, take in our beauty and shop in our stores that are not your run of the mill big boxes but hometown Mom & Pop stores that give that special touch.  ENJOY!
