The Bureau of Fire Prevention (BFP) is responsible for enforcement of the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code.  It provides Planning Board Project Review and Comments, Fire Alarm Design Plan Review, Fire Sprinkler Design Plan Review, and Alternative Fire Suppression System Review.

Prior to any work being done on any Fire related System, a proper proposal shall be submitted for review and approval by the Bureau of Fire Prevention. It is the responsibility of the applicant submit two sets of  actual scaled  design plans and design specifications (shop drawings)to facilitate a proper plan review.

The Project/Contractor is responsible for the proper submissions, access for inspections during the work , Scheduling the BFP to witness a Final Acceptance Test and to provide all required documentation.

The BFP also conducts routine Fire and Life Safety Inspections, to include but not limited to Code Compliance, Fire Alarm, Fire Sprinkler & Fire Suppression Systems Testing and Maintenance.

The BFP is a separate office from The Building Department.
